Who I am
I am Serena Bifolchi — an art historian and artisan from Tuscany, creative since forever.
I grew up in a family full of artistic talents — ceramists, sculptors, painters — and from a very young age I was encouraged to express my inner world.
My grandfather, an antique dealer, taught me the value of matter before I could name it: the warmth of aged paper, the weight of gold leaf, the quiet beauty in objects others had forgotten. My studies in art history deepened that love, and years of travelling the world nourished it.
After a long time abroad, I felt the need to create a space that was entirely mine.
Montepulciano was the beginning, but Siena — with its international spirit and intimate beauty — has become the perfect home for my atelier.
How I paint
Every painting is different and unrepeatable. Natural pigments are never exactly the same, so each shade I mix is unique.
I paint on handmade and antique paper with colours drawn from the land — saffron, Montepulciano wine, coffee, tea — diluted with rainwater I collect to carry the Tuscan sky onto every sheet.
Depending on the size and detail, a single painting can take up to three or four months to complete.

"Every new experience is a way to help my garden of colours grow."
Where I work
My first atelier opened in Montepulciano, on Via di Gracciano, where I grew up among fields of sunflowers and poppies. Siena, with its international spirit and intimate beauty, became the second — and the perfect home for my work.
Both spaces follow the same philosophy: restored family furniture and second-hand objects that together create a small Victorian parlour. I hope anyone who walks in feels welcomed, curious, and free to discover.
